Roseland Apizza

First off, be prepared to spend a fair amount of time here. Especially on the weekends. Had to wait 45 minutes for a booth, then another 30 to 40 minutes for the food to arrive. And what do you get for all that waiting? One of the top 5 pizzas in the state! And the Chicken Parmigiana the wife had falls into the same category as well.

Some of the best New Haven style pizza around. Incredibly flavorful. Even a simple tomato pie or pepperoni will make you wonder why all pizza doesn't taste like this. Dined in for the first time having gotten take out many times before. Take out has never had any issues, though dine in service was quite slow for our party of 7 at dinner time on a Sunday. We were seated right away in their side room due to some lucky timing. This place is always busy and does a lot of take out orders, so I'm assuming this isn't uncommon. However, the food is absolutely worth the wait and basic atmosphere. If you are here for delicious pizza (and garlic bread), you can't go wrong here from their white pizzas (we had the mashed potato and bacon this time) or red pizzas (we had a mozzarella, meatball, and bacon, they were out of pepperoni during our visit). I can't speak for their salads or Italian entrees, but they have had consistent high quality and deep flavor throughout all the dishes we've tried thus far, so I'd be surprised if those weren't also delicious. Looking forward to trying the white clam (to compare against Frank Pepe), the other multitude of pizzas on offer, the grinders, and the entrees during future visits.

Masterful. Roseland Apizza is a wildly underrated gem in the Connecticut pizza scene - undoubtedly on par with Pepe’s, Sally’s, and Zuppardi’s (honorable mention to Modern, though that personally is lower on the list). With that said, each of these legendary pizzerias exist within the highest echelon of pizza not just in Connecticut, but in the world. Roseland Apizza deserves to be included in the conversation as just that: one of the best pizzas in the world. I ordered two pies - one mozzarella, one Roseland special. Both were flawless. It is clear from the thin, crispy crust - a style distinct to New Haven apizza (pronounced: ah-beetz) - that Roseland exists within the same lineage of style and excellence as the aforementioned “greats”. While I highly recommend either of the pies that I ordered, you could truly order anything and walk out with a pizza that will leave you speechless. That’s how good… ahem… GREAT Roseland Apizza is. Two of the best pizzas I’ve ever had and either could conceivably sit in the #1 spot. Aside from the excellent pizza, the restaurant itself is lovely. The neon sign is timeless and inviting. The service from the pizza staff is excellent, and their punctuality was impressive. If you come on a nice day (as I did today), there is a wonderful green space on the side with a handful of picnic tables that is the perfect place to enjoy a bite with your friend, significant other, or family alike. If you are a true pizza fan, Roseland Apizza in Derby is a required pilgrimage. It may very well be the best pizza you ever have.
